چکیده

SUMMARY Occurrence of seismicity sequences as consequence fluid injection or extraction has long been studied and documented. Causal relations between parameters, such pressure, rates, total injected volumes injectivity, with derived rate, cumulative seismic moment, distance (RT-plot), b-values, etc. have derived. In addition, reservoir engineering parameters permeability/porosity flow types play a role together geology knowledge on fault fracture properties, influenced by the stress field different scales. this paper, we study observed related to water at Reykjanes Geothermal Field, Iceland. The region near well did not experience before start injection. However, continued activity during 3 months in 2015, resulting cloud about 700 events ranging magnitude from Mw 0.7 3.3. We re-located these using modified double-difference algorithm determined focal mechanism event subsets. Characteristic for site is that are bound 4 km point, moreover known faults seem act barrier fluids seismicity. Several repeating seismicity, defined bursts hypocenter migration velocities larger than d–1 their dominant direction propagation away point towards depths. within lack events, elevated b-values (∼1.5) consist many multiplets. Except coinciding onset injection, no correlation rates could be identified, neither hydraulic diffusivity models explain patterns. Comparison our results investigations background 1995 2019 swarm 1972 revealed similar patterns burst-like finally present conceptual model where propose represent release area close well, controlled an interplay local pore pressure changes extensional build up Ridge.

simulation and experimental studies for prediction mineral scale formation in oil field during mixing of injection and formation water

abstract: mineral scaling in oil and gas production equipment is one of the most important problem that occurs while water injection and it has been recognized to be a major operational problem. the incompatibility between injected and formation waters may result in inorganic scale precipitation in the equipment and reservoir and then reduction of oil production rate and water injection rate. ...

INDUCED SEISMICITY. Seismicity triggered by fluid injection-induced aseismic slip.

Anthropogenic fluid injections are known to induce earthquakes. The mechanisms involved are poorly understood, and our ability to assess the seismic hazard associated with geothermal energy or unconventional hydrocarbon production remains limited. We directly measure fault slip and seismicity induced by fluid injection into a natural fault. We observe highly dilatant and slow [~4 micrometers pe...

Natural State Model of the Nesjavellir Geothermal Field, Iceland

The Nesjavellir geothermal system in southern Iceland is very complex from both a thermal and hydrologic point of view. There are large pressure and temperature gradients in the wellfield and zones with drastically different pressure potentials. Thus, natural fluid flow is substantial in the system and flow patterns are complex. We have developed a twedimensional natural state model for the Nes...

Tectonic Deformation of a Lacustrine Mudstone at Soda Lake Geothermal Field, Western Nevada, USA, from 3D Seismic Interpretation

The transition between the two structural regimes of the Walker Lane and the Basin and Range allows for complex transtensional fault interactions. NWtrending dextral shear in the Walker Lane and WNW extension in the northern Great Basin imparts enhanced extension and pull-apart basins that bring about structural controls for geothermal systems. The Carson Sink is the surface expression of this ...

Deformation, seismicity, and fluids: Results of the 2004/2005 water injection experiment at the KTB/Germany

[1] During the past decades, the research into fluid-controlled geodynamic processes in the upper crust of the Earth is put foreward regarding the stress accumulation, deformation, and seismicity. In a large-scale injection experiment at the deep borehole site KTB (Kontinentale Tiefbohrung der Bundesrepublik Deutschland) in Germany, more than 84.000 m fresh water was injected in 4000 m depth ov...
